what to expect in therapy

"Therapy is a place to go to be deeply understood when you're feeling deeply misunderstood." - Dr. Gina Barreca

Getting Started

Schedule your first session

When clients reach out for their first therapy session, our front desk staff will not only assist them with insurance questions and client portal setup but also take the time to understand their needs and preferences. They'll intentionally help connect clients with the therapist who is the best fit for their unique circumstances, ensuring a personalized therapeutic experience from the very beginning.

meet your therapist

In the first therapy session, clients can expect to establish a connection with the therapist, discuss their reasons for seeking therapy, set goals, and begin exploring their thoughts and feelings in a safe and confidential environment. It’s normal for this session to feel uncomfortable at first, but it is a foundational step toward the therapeutic journey.

THE therapeutic PROCESS

As therapy continues, clients can anticipate ongoing exploration of their concerns, progress toward their goals, and the development of coping strategies. Additionally, clients can expect the therapeutic relationship to deepen as trust and rapport grow stronger. The therapist-client bond becomes a central source of support and a catalyst for self-discovery, contributing to the overall effectiveness to the therapeutic process.

 Frequently Asked Questions

  • The duration of therapy varies depending on individual needs and goals. Some people may benefit from short-term therapy (a few weeks to a few months), while others may engage in longer-term therapy (several months to years) for more complex issues. The length of therapy is determined collaboratively between you and your therapist, with regular assessments of progress.

  • The decision of meeting online or in person is at the discretion of the client and availability of the therapist, and it can be based on their preferred location and needs.

  • Our cancellation policy states that there is a $100 charge for late notice cancellations, which is applicable when cancellations occur with less than 24 hours' notice.

  • The cost of therapy at our practice ranges from $100-$200 depending on the type and length of session. We do accept insurance, and we can provide information on the insurance providers we work with to determine coverage for your specific plan. Please feel free to reach out for more details on insurance acceptance and any related questions you may have.

  • In the event of emergencies or crises outside of regular therapy sessions, the safety and well-being of our clients are of utmost importance. We recommend that clients immediately contact emergency services (e.g., 911) or their local crisis hotline for immediate assistance and support. Therapists are not available to provide immediate crisis intervention, so it's crucial to reach out to the appropriate emergency services for prompt help. If you have concerns related to therapy, please discuss them during your next scheduled session.
